The Alaskan Malamute /ˈmæləˌmjuːt/ is a large breed of domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris) originally bred for their strength and endurance to haul heavy freight, and later as a sled dog. They are similar to other arctic breeds and spitz breeds, such as the Greenland Dog, Canadian Eskimo Dog, the Siberian Husky, and the Samoyed.

The breed is  German  in origin and dates back to the seventeenth century. The name is derived from the  German   Affe  (ape, monkey). The breed predates and is ancestral to the  Griffon Bruxellois  (Brussels Griffon) and  Miniature Schnauzer . [1] Dogs of the Affenpinscher type have been known since about 1600, but these were somewhat larger, about 12 to 13 inches, and came in colors of gray, fawn, black and tan and also red. White feet and chest were also common. The breed was created to be a ratter, working to remove rodents from kitchens, granaries, and stables. [ citation needed ] Banana Joe V Tani Kazari  (AKA Joe), a five-year-old Affenpinscher, was named  Best in Show at the 2013  Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show  in  New York City . The  Akita  ( 秋田犬   Akita-inu ,  Japanese pronunciation:  [akʲita.inɯ] ) is a large  breed of dog  originating from the mountainous regions of northern  Japan . There are two separate varieties of Akita: a Japanese strain, commonly called "Akita Inu" ("inu" means "dog" in Japanese), or "Japanese Akita"; and an American strain, known as the "Akita" or "American Akita". The Airedale Terrier (often shortened to "Airedale"), also called Bingley Terrier and Waterside Terrier, is a dog breed of the terrier type that originated in the valley (dale) of the River Aire, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England.[1] It is traditionally called the "King of Terriers" because it is the largest of the terrier breeds.
